10 iOS 7 Features Every Apple Fan Should Know

Apple released the newest version of its operating system – iOS 8 – a few weeks back. Here are 10 Amazing iOS 7 Features Every Apple Fan Should Know

1. Use Siri to Handle your Calls

Siri can now be your own personal secretary – just ask her. You can have her play your voicemails for you, or call back a contact whose call you just missed. Don’t like Siri as a girl? Change it to a more masculine voice by going to Settings.

2. Battery Monitoring

If your phone keeps running out of charge faster than it should, your apps may be to blame. In iOS 8, Apple has introduced a nifty new battery monitoring feature that will help you locate apps that drain your battery the fastest.
To open the battery monitoring menu, go to Settings> General>Usage> Battery Usage. Here, you can see battery usage stats over the last 24 hours (or longer too).

3. Wipe your Device after many Failed Attempts

I have a password on my phone, like everyone else, because I need to protect data on it. To protect this data, iOS 7 now has an option to Erase Data after 10 failed password attempts.

4. Don’t let Apple Track your Movements

Did you know that Apple had introduced ad tracking back in iOS 6? I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t; not many people do. It was supposed to track your browsing activity in order to send targeted ads to your phone. But now you can disable tracking if you want to, right under the Privacy settings.

5. Get Night Mode for Maps

Who wants a blinding white light while driving? Not me. Apple Maps now automatically adjusts the map interface to darken based on the time of day. You don’t even need to turn anything on; this feature is here to say whether you like it or not.

6. Private Browsing

Everybody knows that Google collects your browsing data and uses it for its own not-so-mysterious purposes.
You can surf more privately if you use a search engine that respects your privacy, like DuckDuckGo. You can now set DuckDuckGo as your default search engine by going to Settings > Safari > DuckDuckGo. The other three options available are Google, Yahoo, and Bing.

7. Block Unwanted Callers and Messages

Time to start blocking all those annoying callers and messages on your phone. iOS 7 now lets you block a contact from calling you or sending you messages. You can block a contact from calling you by going to Contact Details and clicking Block this Caller. Manage blocked messages by going to Messages under Settings and clicking Blocked. This applies to both iMessages and FaceTime. I personally find this feature very useful, as this helps me to get rid of those annoying unwanted people to call me. If you need a tutorial on how to block people on iOS, do let me know, and I will add it up on the next post.

8. New Camera Features

The camera app packs a punch now with several new features. You can click selfies by setting a 3 or 10 second timer on your Apple device by clicking on the clock icon on the top of your screen. There is a new time-lapse video shooting mode that will stitch together a time-lapse video if you keep your phone still and pointing at a location for a period of time. The newer iPads can now take Panorama shots (swipe the right of your screen to get the mode). You can also adjust the background brightness by swiping up and down while the camera is on.

9. Messages Have Timestamps

One of the most annoying aspects of Messages in iOS was the lack of timestamps in your messages. iOS 7 has improved on that and now you can check what time each message was sent or received. All you need to do is swipe over from the right side of the conversation to see the timestamps.

10. Reply to a Message While Doing Something Else

You can now reply to messages without having to exit out of an app you’re currently running. If you’re playing a game, for example, and get a message, you don’t have to minimize the app.
All you have to do is swipe down at the top of your screen and a reply box will appear. Type your reply and send it.
